Police in Aberdeen are investigating “offensive comments” made on social media about a young boy with Down’s Syndrome.
The comments about 11-year-old Celtic fan Jay Beatty were made following Celtic’s 4-0 win against Aberdeen yesterday and Police Scotland have now confirmed that they are being investigated.
A police spokeswoman said: “We have received a complaint about offensive comments being made online following the Scottish Premiership match between Celtic and Aberdeen and inquiries continue.”
Football fans across the country have taken young Jay to heart after the Celtic players invited him to take part in their title celebrations, while last month the youngster was awarded the SPFL goal of the month award for a penalty he scored at half time in Celtic’s match at Hamilton.
Aberdeen FC have confirmed they are co-operating with the police investigation.
