A woman and a man appeared to be involved in an altercation at the side of the road.

A 24-year-old man has been seriously injured in a crash on an Aberdeenshire road.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the A947 Fyvie to Oldmeldrum road at around 10.10am this morning.

The crash took place near St Katherines and involved a BMW X5 car, white Renault Master van and a white Peugeot Boxer van.

The male passenger of the car is being treated at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for serious injuries.

The Scottish Ambulance Service confirmed a second person was also taken to hospital.

The road was closed in both directions. Motorists were advised to follow a diversion. It has since reopened.

Sergeant Sarah Ritchie, from the road policing unit, said: “Inquiries into the collision are still ongoing and anybody who may have witnessed the incident is asked to get in touch.

“We would also be keen to speak to anyone who may have seen any of the vehicles prior to the incident and could have dashcam footage.”

An ambulance spokesman said: “We received a call today to attend a three-vehicle road traffic collision on the A947 between Fyvie and Oldmeldrum. We dispatched three resources to the scene and transported two patients to hospital.”

Anyone who can help is asked to call police on 101 quoting incident number 0835 of November 25.
