Patients at Foresterhill Health Campus have been warned of dust and infection risks as building works begin at a new £30m mortuary.
Over the past few weeks, preparatory works have begun on the new facility.
It will serve the needs of NHS Grampian, Aberdeen University, the Crown Office Procurator Fiscal Service, Police Scotland and five councils – providing post-mortem facilities across Grampian and the northern isles.
But health bosses have warned that building in the middle of one of the busiest health campuses in Europe requires special measures.
Construction safety measures in place
Project director Manju Patel said: “A challenge the construction activity can pose is the distribution of dust and micro-organisms into the environment.
“Most of us can be exposed to this without any ill effect. However, for some of our patients, undergoing specific treatments which result in their immune systems being severely suppressed, exposure to these micro-organisms may cause infection.
“As a result, patients, visitors, and staff may be aware of measures such as window closures, enhanced cleaning and the use of sticky mats in some doorways to collect dust from outside.
Safety measures will continue to be in place while works are carried out over the next few months.

While the building is being built, NHS Grampian has asked staff and visitors to take extra care and follow instructions from staff.
