The first casks from BrewDog’s new whisky distillery in Aberdeenshire will be auctioned off next week.
On Wednesday, December 7, 50 casks from the firm’s distillery will be available for sale.
Whisky Hammer, a specialist whisky auctioneer based in Ellon, will be hosting the event at 7pm and the sale will run until Sunday, December 11.
The 200-litre casks from the north-east business will be auctioned at a starting price of £5,000.
BrewDog opened its new whisky distillery earlier this year with a climate-controlled warehouse capable of holding nearly 1,000 casks.
The casks for sale at the auction will be the first casks filled at the new distillery in early 2023.
‘We’re expecting a lot of interest’
BrewDog is best known for its craft beer. However, there is already a lot of interest in the launch of their new whisky.
Whisky Hammer, who is hosting the event, holds monthly auctions specialising in whisky and fine spirits and attracts over 200,000 buyers worldwide.
In their last auction, they achieved the world record for selling a £1,017,000 cask at auction – the most expensive ever.
Co-founder and managing director of the business, Daniel Milne, said: “We’re thrilled to be able to partner with BrewDog to help auction off the first-ever casks from their new distillery.
“BrewDog is synonymous with quality, award-winning beer, so it’s an exciting prospect to be able to help them launch a whisky that is as bold as its IPA.
“With only 50 casks available, we’re expecting a lot of interest.”
The collection for sale includes 30 ex-Oloroso sherry, 15 ex-bourbon and five single-grain ex-bourbon casks.
