Youngsters from an Aberdeenshire primary school which raised almost £10,500 for charity wowed shoppers with an impromptu dance.
Three classes from Balmedie Primary School took part in a flash mob at Tesco Danestone, kicking off a packed list of fundraising activities for Comic Relief.
The dance – which will be repeated by the whole school on Friday afternoon – accompanies a mix of four songs, ranging from Topsy Turvy from Disney’s Hunchback of Notre Dame to Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off.
The whole school will also take part in a sponsored marathon, with each class either running or walking just over a mile, as well as a circus theme dress-up day and disco.
For 2013’s Red Nose Day, the school raised £10,495 through a variety of activities, including a dance, games, and a prehistoric fancy dress day.
Head teacher Ken McGowan said he was looking forward to seeing if the youngsters could beat their achievement.
“The place is buzzing just now,” he added.
The children also hold a fundraising dress as you please day every month for various charities, with the proceeds from every third one going to the King David School in Uganda.
The partnership was born when Balmedie School sent off some old textbooks to the charity Books Abroad.
The head teacher in Uganda got in touch and a pen pal system for the primary fives was set up.
Balmedie Parent Council also raises money for the school, which has helped build concrete floors in all the classrooms and furniture, and jewellery made by the African youngsters is sold at the annual Christmas fair.
