A Moray teenager has died after getting into difficulties while swimming in the River Findhorn.
Police were called at 4.05pm yesterday afternoon, after it was reported that Matthew Crosbie had gone missing after experiencing difficulties while swimming in the river.
Following an extensive search of the river and surrounding areas around Randolph’s Leap the 19-year-old’s body was found at the shore of Findhorn Bay at 9am.
A massive search was carried out for Mr Crosbie, involving police officers, a rescue helicopter from RAF Lossiemouth, coastguard teams and fire crews,
Inspector Paul McCruden said: “I would like to remind the public of the significant dangers posed by rivers especially in the aftermath of rainfall, the currents are very strong, unpredictable and the water is often very deep.
“It can also be deceptively cold and there may be objects under the water that are hazardous. You can get swept away very quickly.
“Our firm advice is do not be tempted, regardless of how strong a swimmer you are. Do not jump in or swim.”
