A spot on the north-east coast has been earmarked as one of the best places in the world to view a once in a lifetime solar eclipse.
Aberdeen’s Torry Battery has been named one of the best places in the world to view the forth-coming cosmic event.
Stargazers are expected to flock to the north and north-east of Scotland on Friday, March 20 to see the phenomenon, and the Granite City has now been singled out as one of the best places to view it from.
Northern Europe will be cast into almost total darkness during the phenomenon, which occurs when the moon passes between the Sun and the Earth.
The solar eclipse is expected to begin just after 8.30am and to peak at around 9.40am, finishing at roughly 10.45am.
This only takes place when the Sun and Moon are in conjunction as seen from earth.
Almost 98 percent of the sun’s light is expected to be blocked during the event, which has not been seen from Scotland since 1999.
