Plans for the north-east’s first drive-thru Greggs in Westhill have been approved.
It means Greggs fans will soon be able order their favourite tasty treats without leaving the comfort of their cars.
The national bakery chain lodged plans with Aberdeenshire Council for the new development at Venture Way back in June.
Here we answer some of the key questions fans might have!Â
Where will it be?
The new Greggs will sit on a site between the existing McDonald’s and Starbucks drive-thrus.
How big will Westhill’s Greggs drive-thru be?
The site will have 29 car parking spaces and 12 electric vehicle bays with charging points.
But a cafe will be built too, with seating for 28 diners, so connoisseurs can still choose to sit in if they wish.
Outdoor seating will also be provided so customers can enjoy their drinks, sandwiches, cakes and pastries outdoors when the elements allow.
Will pull-in pastry palace bring about jobs boost?
It will create 20 full and part-time jobs and the drive-thru is expected to be open seven-days a week from 6am to 9pm.
Were there any concerns about it?
Westhill and Elrick Community Council didn’t object to the plan but did raise concerns that the town was at risk of being seen as a “fast food drive-thru hub”.
But the proposal received support from Aberdeenshire Council.
Planners revealed that the site had failed to attract any interest before, despite marketing efforts.
They also believed the drive-thru could attract further investment to the Arnhall Business Park and is a “suitable addition” to the area.
It was unanimously approved.
How common are Greggs drive-thru branches?
The new drive-thru will become Westhill’s second Greggs as the bakery chain already has a unit at the town’s shopping centre.
The firm currently has two drive-thrus in Scotland – one in Glasgow and another in Dalkeith, near Edinburgh.
