An online video showing a motorcyclist careering through a red light on a busy north-east road, without a safety helmet, has now been viewed thousands of times.
The dash-cam footage, posted to YouTube by user Scotland’s Worst Drivers, was recorded last week on St Machar Drive.
As the car recording the footage comes to a stop at the street’s junction with Elphinstone Road, the motorcyclist speeds past in the outside lane, and drives straight through a red light.
The footage has now been viewed around 2,500 times since it was first shared on the website.
Speaking last night, Tillydrone/Seaton/Old Aberdeen councillor Ramsay Milne condemned the actions of the motorcyclist.
Mr Milne said: “It’s very concerning that a motorcyclist should drive through a red light endangering not only himself but other members of the public – both pedestrians and other motorists.
“I’m aware that this has been a problem in the area for a number of years and I would urge all motorcyclists to observe the highway code and to wear safety helmets for their own protection.
“We have seen too many fatalities in the north-east of Scotland in recent times.”
The footage has been called “worrying” by road safety campaigners.
Margaret Dekker, secretary of Scotland’s Campaign against Irresponsible Drivers (SCID), said: “Ofcourse it’s worrying, a couple of people just crossed the road before he passed him.
“From our point-of-view, we really want to see these kinds of drivers prosecuted.”
A spokeswoman for the police has confirmed officers are aware of the incident.
