Police investigating a blaze which gutted one of the north-east’s largest fish factories have ruled out suspicious circumstances.
The fire which tore through the Northbay Pelagic facility in Peterhead on January 17 burned for more than 10 hours.
No one was killed or seriously injured in the incident but the firm’s processing and packing lines, as well as head office, were destroyed.
Now Police Scotland have confirmed that there were no suspicious circumstances linked to the outbreak of the fire.
This morning a police spokeswoman said: “The investigation we carried out would not suggest anything was suspicious about the fire.”
Northbay Pelagic Ltd – one of Europe’s largest white fish processing companies – has lodged plans to create a new central processing plant, as well as a replacement for its office and administration block, which will be situated on the first-storey of the new building.
A new processing plant as well as an engineers’ workshop and chill rooms are proposed for the site.
The plans have now been approved by the landlords of the site, Peterhead Port Authority, and lodged with Aberdeenshire Council.
