A pensioner yesterday admitted causing the death of a young biker by driving carelessly on an Aberdeen road.
Alan George, 65, caused a smash which claimed the life of 20-year-old Ellis Robb last year.
The bakery worker took a right turn at the city’s science and technology park and drove his work van into the path of Mr Robb’s motorbike.
The motorcyclist was forced to take evasive action and lost control of the machine, colliding with the Ford Transit van on January 27.
The tragedy happened at the junction on Balgownie Road, Bridge of Don, at about 5:55am.
Police arrived to find the black motorbike lying by the van, with Mr Robb’s helmet nearby and crash debris strewn across the carriageway.
George admitted a charge of causing death by driving carelessly when he appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday.
The court heard the Aberdeen resident had no previous convictions.
Sheriff Annella Cowan deferred sentence until next month and called for background reports.
Friends paid warm tributes to Mr Robb, a keen guitarist from the Torry district of Aberdeen, as news of his death spread, describing him as “a great guy” and “a true brother”.
Residents, who lived next to the scene of the accident, described hearing a “really loud bang” and said paramedics battled desperately to save Mr Robb.
The road between Braehead Way and Bodachra Road was closed for several hours while police investigated the crash between the bike and a Ford Transit van.
