One person has died and another taken to hospital after three cars collided on the A90 Aberdeen to Peterhead road near Longhaven.
The collision occurred on a straight section of the A90 north of Longhaven at around 10.30am on Wednesday, December 28.
Emergency services were deployed to the scene soon after, with police remaining on site for more than 10 hours.
The vehicles involved were a dark pick-up truck, white Ford hatchback with a trailer attached and a red Ford hatchback.
At around 3pm, a major incident unit van arrived on scene, with three police cars and several officers seen patrolling the area.
Police have confirmed one person has died as a result of the collision with another being taken to hospital as a precaution.
Officers cordoned off the road south of Longhaven and just before Boddam to the north with diversions in place towards Mintlaw.
Just before 5pm, three recovery trucks arrived as work began to remove the cars from the road where the collision occurred.
Crews worked in pitch black conditions, with only lights from police and recovery vehicles to help them see.
The road remain closed closed to traffic for most of the day before reopening at just after 8pm.
A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “One person has died and another person taken to hospital as a precaution following a road crash on A90, near Longhaven, Aberdeenshire around 10.35 am on Wednesday, December 28.
“Inquiries into the cause of the crash are continuing. The road is now open.”
