A motorist has died in a one-car crash in Aberdeen city centre.
Emergency services were called to Wapping Street at around 12.50am on Saturday following reports of a crash involving a red Ford Fiesta.
The incident happened at the junction of Denburn Road.
Police have confirmed the driver died at the scene.
A spokeswoman said: “Around 12.50am on Saturday, December 31, officers attended a report of a one vehicle crash involving a red Ford Fiesta on Wapping Street, Aberdeen at its junction with Denburn Road.
“Emergency services attended and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.”
Two fire crews from Aberdeen Central were sent to the scene at 12.50am but stood down 20 minutes later.
The busy road, which leads to Guild Street and the Trinity and Union Square shopping centres, was closed for 10 hours while a collision investigation was carried out.
Nearby streets including Carmelite Lane, and Bridge Street were also closed by officers.
Appeal for witnesses
Officers are appealing for anyone with information to come forward to help piece together what happened.
Local residents and business owners are also being asked to review their CCTV footage to aid officers with their inquiries.
The police spokeswoman added: “Inquiries are ongoing into the collision and anyone who witnessed the collision or has CCTV footage of the incident is asked to contact Police on 101 quoting incident number 0158 of December 31.”
