Police have confirmed that a man has died in a fire in Aberdeen.
Fire, police and ambulance teams were called to Summerfield Terrace at 1.50pm to tackle a flat blaze but police this evening confirmed the death.
A Police Scotland statement read: “Police units along with units from Scottish Fire and Rescue attended a report of a fire at an address in Summerfield Place at 2pm today.
“The body of a male was subsequently discovered within the premises.
“Investigations are ongoing into the cause of the fire which is currently being treated as unexplained.”
Three fire appliances were sent to the scene, where they extinguished the fire in the ground floor flat in just under an hour.
One resident, who lives two stories above the flat that caught fire, said: “When I came home I saw a lot of activity around the flat. My flat was fine, but there’s still a smell of smoke and chemicals.
“I noticed that the police were in the back gardens looking around as well. We’ve got private sheds back there, and I saw the police searching through one of them. Most of the vans were gone by the evening, but the white Fire Investigation van was still there.”
An investigation has been launched into the source of the fire and Mike Dickson, a group manager for the Scottish Fire Service, said: “The incident will be subject to a joint police and fire investigation, which is currently ongoing.”
