Council chiefs are to begin discussions with bereaved parents affected by the baby ashes scandal at Aberdeen Crematorium about a possible permanent memorial on the site.
Members of the communities, housing and infrastructure committee heard that the council have completed now 14 of the 28 improved recommendations put forward by the Infant Cremation Commission (ICC) in June 2014.
Councillors were told yesterday that alongside the 14 completed recommendations, five are being worked on and nine are waiting on statutory legislation
The report, led by senior judge Lord Bonomy, made 64 recommendations to all local authorities in Scotland but only 28 related to Aberdeen City Council.
Investigations began in Aberdeen after an audit found the ashes of up tp 40 babies may have been scattered in Hazlehead’s Garden of Remembrance without families having been consulted.
Committee convener, Councillor Neil Cooney, said: “On the local memorial I would suggest we take this up with SANDS (stillborn and neonatle death charity) who have a memorial at present.
“We should also enter into conversation with parents on this and get their views.”
