Tourists to the north-east may be disappointed to find that their hotel of choice has closed due to “unforeseen circumstances”.
Owners of the Saplinbrae House Hotel and Lodges, off the A950 near Mintlaw, announced its closure on their website before removing the hotel’s presence from Facebook.
Their website now reads: “Due to unforeseen circumstances we are currently closed for business at this time.”
A Twitter post may, however, provide hints as to why the hotel is no longer serving customers.
On January 12, the hotel posted that it was with “great sadness” and a “heavy heart” that their eatery – Restaurant 1756 – would no longer be offering meals.
Calls to the hotel are now picked up by an answering machine that relays the hotel is closed “until further notice”.
