Police stopped more than 50 drivers at a checkpoint on Great Southern Road in Aberdeen yesterday morning, breathalysing 11 of them for the morning after effect of alcohol.
This was arranged following concerns from residents of Nigg and the West End about inconsiderate driving in the area.
None of those breathalysed were found to have alcohol in their system.
Police also checked vehicles were in good working order and gave motorists advice on issues such as tyre defects and tread depth.
The checks were done as part of Operation Whitebeam, which aims to highlight road safety and detect irresponsible drivers in Aberdeen.
Police Constable Kyle McGivern, who ran the operation, said: “We listen closely to the concerns of those who live in our area and something that comes up regularly is the inconsiderate use of our roads.
“We were pleased to see that of 11 drivers who provided a sample, none were found to have alcohol in their system.
“It was also good to see that everyone we spoke to welcomed this morning’s checks and thought it was a good idea.”
Police have confirmed that similar operations are planned in the near future.
