A former north-east landfill site could soon be brought back into use as recreational space.
The Wester Hatton site, near Balmedie, has not been used for landfill since 2009.
Now FCC Environment want to turn into a space for wildlife to thrive and the community to enjoy.
As part of the project, trees would be planted on the lower slopes and heathland would be allowed to grow in the flatter areas to “complement” the surrounding landscape.
Footpaths would also be created, and the existing wetlands would remain.
Members of the Formartine area committee will be asked to back the plans at their meeting in Ellon on Tuesday.
In a report, director of infrastructure services Stephen Archer states: “As members are aware this site has not been operated for a considerable period of time. The restoration proposals will redevelop this site into one that will enhance wildlife and public amenity.”
The development would be phased to ensure the restoration can take shape as soon possible, with the whole project expected to be complete within four years.
