Forensic officers remain at an Aberdeen flat where a woman’s body was discovered on Monday, as a police cordon remains in place at the scene.
Officers were called out to the property on Sunnyside Road at around 10.40am on Monday January 16 after wellbeing concerns were raised.
A woman’s body was then discovered inside after police broke down the door to a flat.
About five hours later, a man was arrested in connection with the incident outside Scotstown Primary School in Bridge of Don.
A police car and incident support unit remains outside the flat as investigations remain ongoing, with forensic specialists returning to the scene to work in the garden on Tuesday afternoon.
Two police officers were guarding the area around the cordon, with passers-by, including dog walkers, looking over at the police presence in this normally quiet residential area.
Police said they still could not comment on whether the death is being treated as suspicious or not.
Flat remains cordoned off
On Monday, residents reported seeing forensic teams going in and out of the ground-floor property on the road.
An incident support unit arrived at the scene at about 7pm with several detectives as inquiries continued in the area.
Residents at the time described their shock at the incident happening in an area that is “usually quiet and uneventful”.
The building, which is understood to be made up of two flats, remains cordoned off today with two officers standing guard outside.
It is understood the upstairs flat has been empty for several years.
It is situated on the corner of the street near the Cash 4 Clothes second-hand shop, which has opened as usual today.
Sunnyside Road residents react
Neighbours and residents on Tuesday morning said things had been a bit “crazy” with lots of police seen in the area.
Hannah Duncan, who lives next to the flat where the woman was found, said: “There’s been loads of police. I don’t really know the neighbours to be honest.
“Their door’s round the other side, so I couldn’t really pick them out of a line-up.”
Another nearby resident said she hoped things would settle down soon.
“It’s been a bit crazy in the last day,” she said. “Fingers crossed things go back to normal soon.”
In a statement, a police spokeswoman said: “Around 10.40am on Monday January 16, officers were called to a property on Sunnyside Road, Aberdeen, following a report of concern for a person.
“The body of a woman was discovered within, and officers remain at the scene.
“Around 3.20pm, a 43-year-old man was arrested in the Scotstown Road area of Aberdeen in connection with the incident.
“Inquiries are continuing.”
