Singers from across Deeside are being encouraged to take part in a one-off concert as part of a choir’s 30th anniversary celebrations.
Banchory Singers are inviting people to join them for a unique “come and sing” day, which will involve learning songs from Henry Purcell’s King Arthur.
The group will have less than eight hours to perfect the work, before performing it to an audience at Banchory East Church.
Jane Elder, of the choir, said: “This is the first time we’ve done anything like this, but it’s our 30th year so we wanted to have a celebration.
“It’s a great opportunity, as it’s a musical work that’s not often performed and there’s some amazing work in it.
“Everyone will get the score on the day – we’re all in it together, the Banchory Singers haven’t seen it either, and we’ll just go through it until the performance.”
King Arthur is based on the battles between his Britons and the Saxons. Arthur’s fiancee, the blind Princess Emmeline, has been abducted by his arch enemy, the Saxon King Oswald of Kent, and the story centres on efforts to save her.
Anyone who enjoys singing is welcome to take part in the free event, and although the ability to read music would be beneficial it is not essential.
The group will meet the in East Church hall on Saturday at 10.30am for rehearsals, and attendees should bring their lunch.
The performance will take place in the church at 6pm, and everyone is welcome to attend. It will be followed by a celebratory buffet.
