McDonald’s is preparing to revive unpopular plans to open a new drive-thru restaurant in Aberdeen.
The fast food firm originally served up proposals to build the new takeaway on Ashgrove Road West last May.
It wanted to knock down the former Rosehill Day Centre to make way for it.
At the time McDonald’s said the proposal was a “multi-million pound investment” and would provide more than 120 full and part-time jobs.
But the application was withdrawn in September ahead of an Aberdeen City Council planning meeting – after receiving 86 letters from local residents fighting against the plan.
The Scottish Ambulance Service also lodged an objection as it believed the drive-thru would have a “detrimental effect” on its response times to life-threatening callouts from its adjacent base.
The proposal had been recommended for refusal by planning chiefs, who also weren’t lovin’ it.
What is happening with the Aberdeen drive-thru plans?
But now the fast food firm is looking to address the concerns previously raised by objectors ahead of submitting revised plans.
A drop-in session will be held at Aberdeen Indoor Bowling Club next week to give residents the chance to have their say on the new drive-thru.
The project team will be at the Summerhill Road venue on Thursday, January 26, from 4-8pm.
They say the event will allow the team to discuss and collect “valuable” feedback that will help to shape its upcoming submission.
MSP asks locals to join discussions
Aberdeen Central MSP Kevin Stewart objected to the previous proposal saying it would cause an “unacceptable risk” to ambulance response times.
But he has urged local residents to head along to the meeting and give their feedback.
Mr Stewart said: “The local community raised a number of concerns about the last application.
“Given the number of objections there were, these new plans might be of interest to quite a few folk.
“It can be helpful to all involved when developers and communities speak with each other.”
