A 41-year-old man has been charged following an incident with armed police in Inverurie.
Police were called to the scene at 2.55pm yesterday.
Specialist armed officers rushed to the Aberdeenshire town after police received reports of a man in the area with a possible weapon.
He is due to appear in Aberdeen Sheriff Court at a later date.
Significant police response
Elphinstone Road and into Ladeside Road and Ladeside Gardens were blocked by officers for about six hours during the standoff.
A number of houses were closed off, and police asked residents to stay inside their homes.
People were not allowed access to their homes and many stayed in a nearby community centre while the incident unfolded.
Residents also reported children being prevented from leaving school.
Despite there being two NHS incident support vehicles on the scene, no one was injured.
A police spokesman said: “Officers, including specialist officers, attended an address at Crichie Circle in Port Elphinstone, Inverurie, following reports of a man seen in possession of a possible weapon in the Elphinstone Road area.
“A 41-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with the incident. He is expected to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court at a later date.
“No one was injured during the incident and there was no risk to the wider public.”
