A teenager has appeared in court accused of posting an abusive message to a young Celtic supporter with Down’s Syndrome.
Ross Gibson appeared in private at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday, charged with acting in a threatening and abusive manner, likely to cause a reasonable person to suffer fear or alarm.
The 19-year-old, of Aberdeen, made no plea when he appeared in front of Sheriff Kenneth Stewart and was released on bail.
His appearance comes after an offensive comment was allegedly made against 11-year-old Celtic fan Jay Beatty’s condition after Aberdeen’s 4-0 loss to the Glasgow side on Sunday, March 1.
An investigation was launched, and Aberdeen Football Club said it was assisting police with their inquiries.
Football fans across the country took young Jay to heart after the Celtic players invited him to take part in their title celebrations.
Last month the youngster was given the SPFL goal of the month award for a penalty he scored at half time in Celtic’s match at Hamilton.
The Twitter account the alleged comments were posted on has been deleted.
