Trees have been snapped and left strewn across Scotland’s favourite park in a weekend of vandalism mayhem across Aberdeen.

Dog walkers were left at a dismay on Sunday morning after they found the ornamental trees in Seaton Park’s floral displays scattered across the gardens.

Most of the plants were snapped and tilted, while others were fully ripped out of their beds and “dumped” nearby.

The popular Aberdeen park on the banks of River Don was crowned the most-loved one in the country following a nationwide vote last year.

This was a token of recognition of the council’s and the Friends of Seaton Park group of volunteers’ years of hard work to bring the park to the highest standard for all to enjoy.

It is well-known among locals and visitors for its colourful floral displays, memorial fountain, Wallace Tower and the iconic Mr Therm steam engine in the play area.

But all of the group’s efforts were tarnished this weekend amid of string of vandalism incidents across the city.

Vandals cause mayhem in city centre

Police have launched an investigation after 16 cars, as well as an electrical vehicle charger, were also damaged in four different locations across Aberdeen.

The culprits targeted vehicles parked on Whitehouse Street, Skene Street, Carden Place and Union Glen, damaging wing mirrors and windscreen wipers.

Officers believe the vehicles were vandalised between 2.30am and 5am on Saturday.

However, there is no information whether the incidents are linked to the one in Seaton Park.

Eva Jamiknusknite, from Whitehouse Street, found several of the cars parked outside her home damaged a few days ago as she walked out to go to work.

Other residents on the street reported someone going around banging on their doors at about 4am on Saturday.

Miss Jamiknusknite said, with the number of hospitality venues in the area, such incidents were not an unusual occurrence.

The 26-year-old said: “It was a couple of days ago when I went out to go to work and saw few of the cars on our street were damaged. It was all the same damage – the wing mirrors were smashed and their windscreen wipers were broken.

“I hadn’t heard anything during the night, but it’s not the first time this has happened and definitely not something unusual with all the pubs and bars in the area.”

Police reviewing CCTV to catch the culprits

Police are now reviewing CCTV footage from the area to catch the culprits and are appealing to anyone with further information to get in touch.

They said: “An investigation is under way after 16 vehicles were vandalised and damaged in Aberdeen. This took place in the Whitehouse Street, Skene Street, Carden Place and Union Glen areas of the city centre.

“Officers believe the incidents occurred between 2.30am and 5am on Saturday, January 28. They will be reviewing CCTV for any additional information on whoever is responsible and inquiries are ongoing.”

Anyone with further information about the vandalised cars is urged to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 0623 of January 28.
