Donald Trump has promised the latest addition to his north-east golf resort will be “one of the finest clubhouses in Europe”.
The New York-based businessman was at the Menie Estate in Aberdeenshire yesterday run the rule over the progress on the spectacular granite building.
He hopes to open the clubhouse before June 1.
The tycoon said the building would be a “perfect fit” as he visited his resort just days after unveiling plans for a major expansion of Trump International Golf Links, Scotland.
He said: “My overall vision is to keep the new building coherent with the original feeling of the Menie Estate.
“Preservation has always been an important aspect to our work here. I think it will be a perfect fit.
“This addition to the estate is necessary to keep the club at the highest standard of excellence.”
He added that many of the buildings which will follow the clubhouse would be built in a similar, north-east style.
Mr Trump said: “There will be an integration of style and materials. The overall look will remain the same, but with necessary modernisation.
“While a much more expensive finish than would be necessary, it is nevertheless something that I feel I must do.
“The clubhouse will provide jobs and it will harmonise well with the atmosphere that has been created at the course, as well as being an enhancement to the total experience of being at a Scottish links course.
“The course has done very well even operating out of a temporary clubhouse, and now, with one of the finest clubhouses in Europe, it will reach even higher levels.”
The plans lodged last week were for 850 residential properties and nearly 2,000 holiday homes and lodges.
Mr Trump submitted several other applications to the local council earlier this month – including plans for a 400-capacity ballroom and banquet hall and a 30-room staff accommodation building.
There are also plans lodged for MacLeod Course, the second 18-hole course on the site.
Trump International Golf Links, Scotland opened in July 2012, and is now in its third full playing season.
The resort’s MacLeod House and Lodge Hotel, which was granted five-star status by VisitScotland, opened in winter 2013.
