The musical line-up for a catwalk show that celebrates inspirational north-east women has been revealed.

Cancer charity Friends of ANCHOR says that the five musicians they have secured for Courage on the Catwalk 2015 will help the event hit the right note when it takes to Aberdeen’s Beach Ballroom next month.

The artists, some of whom have shared a stage with the likes of Midge Ure and Hugh & Cry, will accompany the stars of the show – 24 ladies who have all battled cancer – as they strut their stuff on stage.

Paul Black, Katy Johnston, Millicent, Oliver Richards and Isla Trahan will each perform at three shows on May 9 and 10 to set the musical backdrop for one of the charity’s biggest fundraisers.

Singer and guitarist Oliver, who has supported acts like Toploader and Hue & Cry, said he was delighted to be asked to support the ladies as they make their catwalk debut.

“So many lives are affected by cancer and to be a part of the event, share the stage and play my music alongside such inspiring women to raise money and awareness is a real privilege,” he said.

Aberdeen-born Katy Johnston, who has been singing since she was a little girl, said Courage on the Catwalk would be her biggest gig to date.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be involved with such a fantastic event and am delighted to be helping out the best way I know how – with my voice,” said the 19-year-old.

Millicent, 29, a soul singer and songwriter who performs in and around Aberdeen, will take to the stage for a second year.

“I think it’s extremely amazing and inspiring for women who have been affected by something as demoralising and life-threatening as cancer to still get up, face the world and say ‘this is me with my scars and insecurities, but I am here’,” she said.

Singer Paul Black is a well-known performer on the Aberdeen circuit, popular for his covers of tracks from the likes of Michael Buble, Frank Sinatra and Jamie Cullum.

“I am excited and privileged to be back supporting Courage on the Catwalk for the second time. There is nothing else like it in the north east and beyond,” he said.

Total E & P UK Ltd has announced its support for a third year as title sponsor. Apache North Sea Ltd is gold sponsor and Norse Ltd silver.

The charity decided to add an extra show this year after the past two years sold out. In total, more than 2,200 people should watch the models across the weekend.

Tickets for all three shows are still available, starting at £17.50.
