A prolific drug dealer was caught with bags of heroin in his mother’s kitchen after police unexpectedly turned up at his mum’s birthday party.
Shaun Cowie, or Argo, was linked to a quantity of the Class A drug worth more than £7,000 on the streets which was found at an address in Aberdeen.
The unemployed 29-year-old was snared after his DNA was found on a bag of drugs that were discovered during a birthday bash at his mother’s home on Manor Walk.
Advocate depute David Dickson told the High Court in Edinburgh: “The accused and others had attended at her address to celebrate her birthday.
“Police officers became aware that a person for whom an arrest warrant was available was believed to be in the house.
“Officers attended and, on gaining access to the house, saw drugs lying openly in the kitchen.”
Caught out by DNA
Police recovered two bags containing more than 140 grams of heroin with a potential street deal value of £7,100.
Cowie’s DNA was found on a knot on one of the bags.
They also seized cash from the kitchen and a mobile phone from Cowie.
“Analysis of the black phone disclosed texts from another person indicating they could supply controlled drugs to the accused and texts from those seeking drugs from the accused,” Mr Dickson added.
Third conviction for dealing
Cowie admitted being concerned in the supply of heroin on June 29 last year, when he appeared via a video link to the High Court in Edinburgh.
He’s previously been convicted on two other occasions of similar offences involving heroin and cocaine.
Cowie now faces a potential seven-year jail sentence for his third conviction for Class A drug supply.
Judge Lord Tyre told him: “You have pled guilty to a charge of dealing in a Class A drug.
“Because this is your third conviction, the court is bound in terms of the legislation to pass a minimum sentence.”
He added that there was scope for some discretion in sentencing in appropriate circumstances and called for a background report to be prepared.
Cowie, of Abbotswell Road, will return to court for sentencing next month.
