A once popular north-east hotel has been put on the market for more than £1.1million.
The Saplinbrae Hotel, near Mintlaw, suddenly shut in January after the owners announced they could no longer operate the business.
Now Shepherd Chartered Surveyors are selling the property, which comes with a detached shooting lodge, two holiday chalets and four-and-a-half acres of land.
The hotel itself has nine bedrooms, main lounge, public bar, function room, kitchen and reception area.
Scott Young, who is handling the sale, said due to “unforeseen circumstances” that the previous owners had decided to sell up.
“It’s just due to unforeseen circumstances, they just want to get a successful sale through,” he said.
“Essentially what our client is looking for is offers over £1.1million.
“It’s going to be a fully-fitted hotel, so basically it’s ready for instant use – all fixtures and fittings are staying inside the property.
“Ideally, the client is look sell it as whole, but I think a bit of consideration would be given to selling it as individual plots because we’ve got the main hotel, a detached shooting lodge and then we’ve got two holiday chalets, so it can be split up.”
In 2009, Buchan area councillors had approved plans to convert the property into four flats.
The country house, however, continued to be operated as a hotel and was refurbished two years ago.
Mintlaw councillor Jim Ingram said last night he was hopeful that it will continue to serve villagers under new ownership.
“It’s been a valuable asset to the area over the years,” he added.
“I get expressions of disappointment that it has closed, because it was starting to build up a respectable clientele. I’ve been along two or three times and was always happy with the service, so it was a bit disappointing to hear they decided to close up.”
