Residents of an Aberdeenshire village are being asked for their views on plans to move their post office.
Fettercairn’s existing post office is closing as the postmaster has resigned and withdrawn their premises for use. Now the Post Office wants to move their service to the Fettery Shop in the Square.
The new facility would be an outreach service, with two sessions a week. Under the plans, the postmaster from Brechin will be in the shop from 9am-1pm on Mondays and Thursdays.
The Post Office said the move is the “best possible solution” to providing a service to Fettercairn.
Field change advisor Brian Turnbull said: “We understand how important having a post office is to residents in Fettercairn and we are confident the hosted outreach service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.
“This is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office, and marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”
Meanwhile, Huntly’s new post office will open later this month in McColls, The Square.
The open-plan office will be modern and have three counter positions, and will be open seven days – increasing the service in town by 32 hours a week.
The existing post office will close at 5.30pm on April 23. The facility at McColls will open at 1pm the next day.
A six-week consultation on the Fettercairn proposals is now underway, and customers are being urged to have their say.
