A drunken pubgoer who tried and failed to impress a woman with his flirting smashed his bar stool over another man’s head after being told to cool his advances.
Callum Forbes was trying to woo a woman in the Woodend Bar in Bucksburn but took it badly after being told to back off, Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard.
Forbes had been drinking while on prescription meds and the cocktail didn’t serve his mood well, the court was told.
Was trying to woo woman
Fiscal depute Lydia Kerr said the incident happened just after 9pm on April 15 last year at the Stoneywood Road bar.
She said Forbes tried to speak with a woman at the bar and “flirt with her.”
“At around 11pm, she approached another drinker at the bar and stated that the accused had become too intoxicated,” she said. “At this point, another customer noticed that she was not appreciating his advances and told the accused to go home.
“This angered the accused and he got up from his seat picked up a bar stool by its legs and struck the man to the head with it causing him to fall.”
The woman he’d previously been trying to impress watched on and called the police, who turned up and cautioned Forbes.
His victim suffered a 4cm cut to his head and a laceration to his lip which could leave a scar.
Mixed medication with booze
Forbes admitted a charge of assault to injury and permanent disfigurement.
Defence agent David Sutherland said his client had lots of background issues which were detailed in a report but that Forbes had “expressed remorse and sadness” over his behaviour.
Sheriff Lesley Johnston told him: “These are serious offences which caused injury and permanent disfigurement.
“I am concerned that your offending behaviour is escalating. You have noted the impact that alcohol when taking medication had on your actions.”
As an alternative to custody, she handed Forbes, of Wellheads Avenue, Dyce, an 18-month supervision order and 120 hours of unpaid work.
