Residents in the Mearns will get the chance to view a blueprint outlining the future of Aberdeenshire today.
The proposed local development plan is now out to consultation, and a series of drop-in events are being held to give locals their say.
Members of the council’s planning team will be at Stonehaven Town Hall today from 1pm-7pm to answer any questions from the community, and to advise people how to make comments they want to be taken into consideration.
The local development was published last month, and guides where homes, businesses and other schemes will be allowed to be built between 2016 and 2021.
It represents the “settled view” of Aberdeenshire Council and also identifies the policies to be used when making decisions on planning applications.
The draft plan includes detailed statements for each of the main towns, and in Stonehaven’s case one of the main issues is how to answer repeated calls for a major supermarket.
The consultation – open to communities and developers – will run until May 8.
Consultations will be held in various locations across the north-east, including Banff and Macduff tomorrow, Turriff, Ellon, Inverurie, Westhill, Laurencekirk, Banchory, Huntly and Alford.
Robert Gray, head of planning for the council, said: “We are delighted to make ourselves available across Aberdeenshire to answer questions and help people make their views known.
“Staff will be on-hand to answer any questions and assist people in making submissions to the proposed plan.
“Submissions will be assessed and then presented to a Scottish Government-appointed reporter to determine their merits.
“We are very pleased with the proposed plan, which has been a huge piece of work for my policy planning team. We think we have adequately captured the main planning issues affecting Aberdeenshire and the plan will be an appropriate response to both the needs of communities and of developers.”
