A son who was confronted about his drinking by his concerned parents hurled vile abuse at them before causing £600 worth of damage to their Land Rover with a vodka bottle.
Richard Davidson called his own mum a “f****** slag” and his dad a “piece of s***” after they spoke to him about his secret drinking, Aberdeen Sheriff Court was told.
Fiscal depute Ryan Diamond told the court how the 23-year-old kicked off after his parents discovered he’d consumed alcohol despite knowing how it affects his mental state and mood.
Caused damage with vodka bottle
“He was confronted but denied drinking at the time,” Mr Diamond said. “There was an argument about alcohol and where it was hidden and at that point, the accused variously shouted and swore and punched doors.
“He called his mum a ‘f****** slag’ and father a ‘piece of s***’. He then lifted his bed up from the ground and slammed it down causing it to break.
“Thereafter he retrieved an empty vodka bottle and once outside smashed the rear window of his parents’ Land Rover.”
As police made their way to the Aboyne family home, Davidson went inside and punched a hole in his wardrobe.
The court heard the damage to the Land Rover was £600.
Davidson admitted charges of threatening or abusive behaviour and vandalism after the incident on February 20 this year.
He was also sentenced for an earlier offence from January 12 this year where he challenged a man to a fight, threw furniture around, struck and damaged a car and struggled with police during an incident in Banchory High Street.
On that occasion, he caused £350 of damage to a car. He pled guilty to charges of threatening or abusive behaviour, vandalism, and resisting arrest.
‘He has been out of control’
Defence agent Michael Burnett said his client was having difficulties with his mental health and alcohol misuse at the time.
“These two cases represent a combination of these two issues,” he said. “He is extremely embarrassed and ashamed at speaking to his parents like this. They are very supportive of him.
“He is working to get a handle on the alcohol misuse voluntarily. Clearly, he has been out of control.”
Sheriff Margaret Hodge handed Davidson, of West Park Street, Huntly, 120 hours of unpaid work and an 18-month supervision order. He must also pay his assault victim £250 and the Banchory car owner a further £250.
“I do accept there are underlying problems which you should be able to obtain support from the social work department for,” she added.
