A group of north-east councillors have been cleared of breaching their own code of conduct, after voting to send a controversial letter to thousands of people, just months before last year’s Scottish Independence Referendum.
Seven Aberdeen city councillors were accused of agreeing to send the controversial note last year, along with council tax letters, telling people the city was “stronger” as part of the UK.
The leaflet went out to 113,000 households in March, just months before Scots were due to vote in the highly-charged referendum.
Labour councillors Willie Young, Barney Crockett, Jenny Laing, Ross Grant and Neil Cooney all gave evidence before the Standards Commission.
Conservative councillors Ross Thomson and Fraser Forsyth also appeared before the panel, in a hearing which lasted two days.
