The six finalists in this year’s Young Enterprise Grampian programme have been announced, with one of them heading for the Scottish finals in June.
More than 25 entries were received for the regional awards, which reach their climax at the Mercure Aberdeen Ardoe House Hotel and Spa at Blairs, near Aberdeen, on Tuesday.
The six school teams for the title of Grampian’s finest young entrepreneurs include Top Glass and MIXJAR from Inverurie Academy, Roots and Against the Grain from Albyn School in Aberdeen, Matters Arising at Peterhead Academy and Chalk It from Aberdeen’s Hazlehead Academy.
Young Enterprise Grampian chairman Victoria Chisholm said: “We’ve seen some excellent examples of business ideas from Young Enterprise companies that represent schools throughout the north-east.
“All members of the six companies going through to the Grampian finals have displayed the drive, creativity and positive attitude that is needed a business environment.
“They will all now be waiting with a sense of excitement and nervous anticipation to see who will represent Grampian at the Scottish finals.”
Bob Keiller, chief executive of Wood Group and keynote speaker at the Grampian finals, said: “The Young Enterprise programme plays an important role in educating our young people about the business world.
“In the current economic climate it is more important than ever that we support these young entrepreneurs as they take their first steps to becoming future business leaders.”
Bruce Walker, Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2014 and chief executive of global entrepreneurship firm We are the Future will also speak at the event and sit on the judging panel.
