The owners of Siberia have unveiled plans to turn a long-empty cafe beside the Aberdeen bar into a new doughnut shop.
Late last year, the Belmont Street pub and hotel announced major expansion plans as it bought over the Cavern record shop and former Melt cafe next door.
Owners Harding Ltd secured the deal on the site just days after a summit aimed at reviving the stagnant city centre.
They were tight-lipped on their plans for the four-storey building at the time…
Old Melt store could be new Dough and Co
But now, documents freshly submitted to the council reveal their aims for the old toastie shop – and they’re enough to make Homer Simpson drool.
They want to turn the former Melt unit into a doughnut shop called “Dough and Co”.
The new signage would boast of its “fresh hand-made doughnuts”.
There would even be a bright pink sign in the shape of the bakery item jutting out onto Belmont Street.
Siberia manager said plans would boost cafe culture
Speaking in November, Stuart McPhee, the co-director of Siberia Bar and Hotel, indicated the plans they were cooking up would boost cafe culture in Aberdeen.
He said: “We think Aberdeen has a bright future, and local independent business has a big part to play in that.”
Melt developed a cult following among Aberdeen cheese fans.
