An offshore worker and former Royal Engineer has been fined after he smashed his girlfriend’s phone during a drunken row.
Graeme Johnston appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court from custody yesterday and admitted acting in a threatening and abusive manner on Sunday.
The court heard the 28-year-old had been out drinking the night before with some friends when he became separated from them in town.
When he returned home drunk he ended up waking his partner, Jennifer Blackett, before carrying out a loud telephone conversation with his missing friends.
The court heard Johnston tried to explain to his pal how to get to his flat, however his irritated girlfriend took the phone from him in order to give him better directions.
Representing Johnston, of 6F Tullos Circle, solicitor Peter Keene said his client had become frustrated with his partner as he had been in the middle of a phone call.
He said he then snatched her telephone from her, hitting her on the face with it, before throwing it against a wall and smashing it.
Mr Keene told Sheriff Edward Savage the behaviour was very out of character for his client.
He said he only reacted in that way because he was drunk and irritated.
Sheriff Savage said he was not surprised Johnston’s girlfriend “did not welcome him home with open arms” that evening.
He fined him £270.
