Residents are being urged to support a public consultation on a new north-east primary school.
Members of Aberdeenshire Council’s Formartine area committee agreed last month to move forward with an £11million project to replace Markethill Primary in Turriff.
The move follows years of campaigning by local parents.
Under the proposals, the school will close in July 2017, with pupils going to its replacement on Meadowbank Road from August that year.
Now the local authority is seeking to gather the views of the wider community.
The consultation will run until May 20, when a public meeting is due to take place in the school’s main hall at 7pm.
Last night, the chairwoman of the council’s education committee said it was important that as many people as possible took part.
Isobel Davidson said: “I’m really pleased that Markethill Primary is progressing and I would encourage people to get involved. The more public input and support we get for a project like this, the better it is.
“We really need the community’s input so that we are able to address their needs at the same time as we’re building a school to educate children.
“People have to tell us what they need to be able to carry out the activities they would like to be able to do.”
Markethill’s current roll will be capped at 469 from August this year until the new school is ready.
The replacement will feature a seven-a-side grass pitch, an all-weather pitch and an indoor sports hall.
Councillors are expected to endorse the consultation at next week’s Formartine area committee.
