One of the north-east’s most popular takeaways has secured a deal to bring as taste of home to thousands of offshore workers.
The unique “Premier Bay Batter” crafted at the Bay Fish and Chip Shop, on the Stonehaven beachfront, will be enjoyed by 4,500 oil workers after its owner struck a deal with catering company ESS Support Services.
Last night shop owner Calum Richardson said he was “delighted” that his award-winning product would be enjoyed on board so many of the region’s rigs.
And he insisted its special ingredients would boost the health of the workforce.
Chef Mr Richardson – a veteran of the Royal Navy – created the magic mix three years ago.
It is free of additives and artificial colourings, and contains just flour, raising agents and salt.
The batter will be used alongside north-east fish provided by Trawlermen-star Jimmy Buchan’s Amity Seafood.
Mr Richardson said: “I’m delighted to be supplying ESS Compass with my Premium Bay Batter.
“Their focus on top quality produce, traceability and on the health aspects of using produce with no colourings or additives is like a breath of fresh air.”
The chef set up the fish and chip shop in 2006 with wife, Lindsay, and was the overall winner of the National Fish and Chip Awards in 2013.
The takeaway is dedicated to sourcing the best local produce for its menu.
