A woman was this afternoon taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary following a dramatic crash on a north east road.
The air ambulance was called to the scene of the incident on the northbound A96 Aberdeen to Inverness road, between Insch and Huntly, at around 1.45pm, however, due to the snowy conditions, the helicopter was unable to take off.
Fire and police crews both attended the scene and a road ambulance eventually was called and took the woman to hospital with “serious head injuries”.
A police spokeswoman explained: “There was a collision on the A96 before Huntly and it is near the crawler lane. We were phoned by the fire and rescue service at 1.45pm.
“The air ambulance went up to potentially to take the woman to hospital but because of the snow, they couldn’t take off, so she had to go by land ambulance.”
The crash is one of a number of crashes in the north and north east following the afternoon snowfall which has taken drivers by surprise.
UPDATE: The road has since been re-opened, and gritters are now in the process of making the road safe for travel.
