A sex offender who was caught after his mother and sister recognised him on the news has had another month added to his prison sentence.
Craig Taylor was captured on CCTV leaving the scene of his crime after he indecently assaulted a woman in a student accommodation car park.
A major police investigation was launched and images of the man they believed to be responsible were released to the press.
And when Taylor’s horrified family members realised what he had done, they contacted officers immediately – even handing over some of his clothes for DNA analysis.
Taylor was jailed for 14 months when he appeared at the High Court in Edinburgh having admitted the attack.
His earliest release date for the offence is August 7 this year.
However, yesterday Sheriff Annella Cowan added another month to his sentence after he appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court and admitted failing to register his details with the police within three days of being convicted of the sex assault.
Taylor, of 94 Cattofield Place, Aberdeen, admitted committing the breach of the Sex Offenders Act 2003 on November 21 last year – three days after he admitted the sexual assault.
The court previously heard Taylor, who is on the sex offenders register for 10 years, carried out the early morning assault on August 31 last year in the car park of Unite’s Spring Garden premises.
Taylor had originally been charged with attempting to rape the woman, however his guilty plea to a lesser charge was accepted by the Crown.
