Youngsters at the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital will have access to plush new surroundings thanks to a donation from staff at the Marks and Spencer store in the St Nicholas Centre.
The employees presented £10,000 to the hospital’s charity, the Archie Foundation, yesterday following a successful year of fundraising.
The money will pay for two rooms to be renovated at the Foresterhill site.
Manager Katherine Pace said: “We vote on a charity every year to raise funds for and this year Archie was the clear winner.
“We raise money for other national charities but it’s great to work for a local charity and see what a difference we can make to local children.”
Staff took part in a series of activities, including cake sales, bag packing, dress down days and exercise bike challenges.
They also cin a virtual walking challenge, which involved attaching pedometers to their feet and travelling the distance between Aberdeen and St Andrews while they were at work.
Mrs Pace said the cake sales had produced extraordinary competition among the staff.
She said: “It was like walking into the Great British Bake Off.”
Acting head of fundraising at Archie, Claire Bush, said the team was grateful for all their hard work.
She said: “We were really pleased when Marks and Spencers chose us.
“They have been brilliant to work with and it has been great to be able to go into the store and get involved.
“We are grateful to all the staff who took part to help raise funds.”
