Pupils at Hazlehead Academy have been baking up a storm in a challenge designed to give them a taste of life in the food industry.
The school joined forces with north-east bakers JG Ross to take part in the Scottish Food and Drink Federation’s (SFDF) A Future in Food programme.
The second year pupils were tasked with creating the ultimate bakery treat using local produce and threw themselves into the challenge with gusto.
The winner was a layered sponge made with blackberries created by pupils Jodie McGuiness, Hollie Harwood and Claire McLeod.
Judith Findlay, a home economics teacher at Hazlehead Academy, said: “The challenge has really brought the Curriculum for Excellence to life and the pupils have learned a lot about the career opportunities available in the food industry.
“It has been great for staff and pupils to work so closely with a local business and we hope to continue with this partnership for years to come.”
