Aldi has unveiled reworked plans for a Macduff store – with a new “masterplan” for the land surrounding the supermarket.
The discount retailer was granted permission to open a new branch last year, after receiving overwhelming public support.
But Tesco exploited legal loopholes to sink the scheme in court, with Aberdeenshire Council later admitting mistakes in the process that left it open to challenge.
In the days afterwards, scores of dismayed locals rallied in an effort to see the plans brought back to the table.
And moved by the display, Aldi soon confirmed its “commitment” to seeing the scheme through.
And in order to turn their vision into a reality, they’re pushing the boat out to make sure the plans are bullet proof this time.
‘Despite challenges, we remain committed…’
New blueprints for the land at Duff Street will feature a 22-home housing estate, and potential for a new medical practice.
An Aldi spokesman explained the shop would now form part of a “wider mixed-use development”.
He added: “Despite challenges, we remain committed to investing in the area.
“We welcome the support from the community so far and, like them, are very excited about the prospect of an Aldi coming to Macduff.”
The store itself is tipped to bring 35 new jobs to the area.
How can I have my say on Macduff Aldi housing plans?
There will be a public consultation event on the renewed proposals next week.
The event will take place at the Buchan Hall on Macduff from 3pm to 7pm on Thursday, April 27.
A new website has been launched here too.
