International Workers Memorial Day has been marked in a wreath-laying ceremony in Aberdeen.
Representatives from the city council joined trade unionists for the event at the worker’s memorial in Persley walled garden on Mugiemoss Road.
The monument – a black granite pillar commissioned by Aberdeen Trades Council – commemorates those who have lost their lives at work.
Former council leader Barney Crockett represented the Lord Provost George Adam at Monday’s ceremony.
The Lord Provost said: “This is a day to honour the working people throughout the world who have lost their lives while going about their daily employment.
“It serves as a reminder to us all to continue to stand up for working people’s rights and to ensure workplace practices are exemplary.”
Unite regional organisor Tommy Campbell said: “Unite is proud to be associated with the other council-based trades unions, councillors and staff in remembering and paying our respect for those workers who have lost their lives in the workplace or through industrial disease.
“Our thoughts are with those families who have lost their loved ones.”
