Red, white and blue flags and party hats added a splash of colour to a grey Saturday as coronation celebrations got under way.

Hundreds of people came together to celebrate the crowning of King Charles, with plenty more events taking place tomorrow.

Balmoral Castle hosted a big screen showing of the Westminster Abbey ceremony, with scores of people flocking to Deeside for the event. Others attended more community-focused screenings in village halls in Methlick, Turriff and Ballater.

Although most of the street parties and big lunches are taking place on Sunday, Kintore got the party started early – with plenty of people turning out for the fun.

Here are some of our favourite photographs from Saturday’s celebrations.
