Residents in Ellon are being asked how they would like the area’s green spaces to be improved and developed.
A month of consultations has been launched by Aberdeenshire Council, the North East Scotland Biodiversity Partnership and Conservation Volunteers.
The project will seek public opinion on how to improve attractions such as the River Ythan, the Formartine and Buchan Way, and various parks and woodlands enjoyed by humans and animals.
Named the Ellon Green Network, the scheme also aims to make the town a more attractive place to live and work, promote healthier lifestyles and reduce the local carbon footprint.
Ellon councillor Isobel Davidson said: “We’ve been doing some background work on how green areas in Ellon could be improved, such as the riverside, which is a really important environmental feature.
“We’ve also been looking at our parks, like McDonald Park, Auchterellon, Meiklemill – all these areas that maybe we could do more with to make them environmentally friendly and improve biodiversity.
“There have been some thoughts about adding more wildflower areas, trees and hedges around Ellon, just making the area more diverse, but we’re trying to find out what local people want more than telling them what we’re going to do.”
Three consultations will be held this month, at Gordon Park on May 9, Auchterellon Park on May 10 and on Market Street on May 16. All will run from 11am to 3pm.
