A north-east dentist has been suspended for a year, pending an official inquiry.
Dr Alison Ross, who is based at Optimus Dentistry in Rosemount Place, Aberdeen, had been called before the General Dental Council (GDC).
Ms Ross, the registered owner of the practice, was placed under the ban by the council’s interim orders committee.
The full extent of the allegations against her are unknown at this stage.
However, she will now face an uncertain future as the council could decide to remove her from the register permanently, meaning she would be unable to practise anywhere in the UK.
Ms Ross has almost two decades’ experience as a dentist and spent six years travelling the world with the Royal Air Force while carrying out dental work in the armed forces.
On her return to Aberdeen she worked in specialities including oral surgery, as well as working with special-needs patients.
Ms Ross founded Optimus Dentistry in part of a C-listed former church in January 2009.
Initially a private practice, it has also catered for NHS patients in recent years.
In January 2011 it came close to being shut down after a petition was launched to liquidate the surgery.
A spokeswoman for the GDC confirmed a date had not yet been set for the council’s decision or a further hearing.
The Optimus Dentistry premises were closed yesterday and calls to its telephone number went unanswered.
