An innovative Deeside home has been shortlisted for one of the most prestigious architecture awards in Scotland.
Bieldside’s Walled Garden House is in the running for the 2015 Saltire Housing Design Awards in the single dwelling-new build category.
The property was crafted into a family home in the stone garden walls in the grounds of an existing house in the Aberdeen suburb.
The arching one-floor home sites near woodland and has one large, open-plan kitchen and living room made of glass looking on to a lawn.
It was designed by Aberdeen-based Graham Mitchell Architects and is in the running along with Orchard Neuk in Roxburghshire and
Murphy House in Edinburgh.
Executive director of the Saltire Society, Jim Tough, said: “The Housing Design Awards were the very first awards scheme initiated by the society, and have been around longer than any other design awards in Scotland.
“Established in 1937, the awards not only promote the importance of good design and housing for all, but have evolved to help to honour and encourage creativity, excellence and innovation in modern Scottish place-making.
“As we look forward to the forthcoming site visits, I wish all those shortlisted the very best of luck.”
Winners will be in the running for a saltire medal and cash prizes of £1,500 and will be announced at the Edinburgh Centre for Carbon Innovation on June 22.
