An Aberdeen singer who vowed America in its version of TV talent show The Voice is coming back home as part of a European tour.
Terry McDermott who started off his musical career in Aberdeen band Driveblind, moved to America in 2003, and toured with the band supporting the likes of Taylor Hawkins of the Foo Fighters, Hot Hot Heat and The Bravery.
As part of his European tour, he will play with his band Lotus Crush at Downstairs on Holburn Street on May 29, under his old label of Fat Hippy Records,
He will then perform morning gig the day after at Captain Tom’s for a live performance streamed worldwide on the studio’s website, kpx.tv.
Mr McDermott, who was raised in Pitmedden, said: “I’m getting to take home a band that I’m very proud of to Aberdeen for the first time. Lotus Crush have never toured in
Europe before, so it’s really exciting to not only take the show to Aberdeen but also across to Belgium , Poland and Prague.
“Peter Klett and Scott Mercado, who are also in the band, are members of the band Candlebox, who might not be a well known name in the UK but in the US they’ve sold 10 million records, they’re a multi-platinum, very known rock band.
“They never got to do a huge amount of touring in the UK or Europe because of their US success, so they’re really excited to come over.
“We’re a rock and roll band with an undeniable American edge, but the reason the band came together is because Pete and I had a shared love of The Verve, so you definitely hear elements of British rock bands in there, so the crowds will take to what we’re doing very easily.
“I’ll be in Aberdeen a few days earlier before the gig so I can hang out with friends and get a hangover or two, but I’ll be spending a lot of time with the family because I never get to see them really living in New Orleans.”
The Aberdeen musician shot to stardom in season three of the NBC network’s version of The Voice with a spellbinding performance of Baba O’Riley by The Who, which had three of the four judges hitting the “I Want You” button and turning their chairs around.
He came runner up in 2012.
