An Aberdeen woman fraudulently claimed almost £17,000 in benefits.
Nicola Sweeney admitted two charges when she appeared at the city’s sheriff court yesterday.
Between May 9, 2011 and September 2, 2013 the 27-year-old lied to the authorities, claiming she lived on her own when she was actually staying with her partner Michael Robb.
As a result she received £6,446.55 in income support from the Department of Work and Pensions (DOWP) which she was not entitled to.
She also fraudulently claimed £9,464.38 in housing benefits and £845.37 in council tax benefits from Aberdeen City Council.
In total Sweeney, of 56 Greig Court, Aberdeen, wrongly claimed £16,756.30 in benefits.
Sheriff William Taylor deferred sentence on Sweeney until next month for background reports to be carried out into her character.
High Court sentencing guidelines state that anyone convicted of fraudulently claiming more than £10,000 in benefits should be jailed.
